Getting the E-mails You Want

With all the spam filtering going on by ISPs and users alike, it has become very difficult for onliners to actually get the e-mail they want! Your “whitelist” or “approved senders”, and sometimes your company’s network security settings, can determine which e-mail addresses are approved to be allowed into your e-mail inbox.

By taking the extra steps to add desired domains to your address book or e-mail software, you can in most cases override any other filtering going on for spam. But your list of addresses is not the end-all-be-all in ensuring you get all the e-mails you want. You would be surprised how many legitimate companies do spammy things in e-mail which then trigger filters and block their e-mails.

PCWorld.com offers instructions for making sure the e-mail you do want to receive makes it though depending on what service/software you use for e-mail:  PCWorld.com

Use this site as a guide and replace PCWorld’s e-mail address with that of any publication or e-mail address you want to receive. Easy! Businesses can also use this page as an example of what information they should provide to their subscribers to ensure subscribers to updates or e-mail newsletters can get their settings in place to receive your opt-in mailings.

What if someone is trying to e-mail you and they are getting blocked even after being added to your list? Whether it be spam blocking or network security blocks, they are doing something spammy that they probably are not aware is spammy! My post on the topic can help them determine why they are being blocked and what they need to consider to ensure you get the e-mails you want — theirs!
