E-mail & Networking

Today I was reminded how powerful e-mail can be in your networking activities and opportunities. Over the weekend, I had five folks I had worked with in the past (some the distant past) who e-mailed me to check in and talk business.

What was a pleasant surprise, besides hearing from these past associates, was how well they used e-mail to get back into contact. Each had the 5 Essential Elements of Every E-mail properly in place. Each asked how I was doing while sharing a bit of what they had been up to before getting down to business.

One in particular found me through one of my various pages on Blogging, Networking and Social Media Web sites that confirmed once again how valuable it is to be out there and not rely on one Web page or site alone to be found.

I’m a little different than most in that I’ve been online from the start and can be easily found. If you Google me, depending on the day and data center you’ll get 10,000-20,000 hits. But not everyone uses Google. Each person has their own favorite sites and networking hubs and if you are serious about being found, it behooves you to be there.

Where is there? Here are some of the sites that I use to market and network when I have some free time (which is never enough time):

  • EzineArticles.com: Simply the best and most professional article archive.
  • LinkedIn.com: Lots of pros there — I just wish a I had more time to work it. If you’re on LinkedIn.com — let’s link up!
  • MySpace.com: You don’t have to play there — but having a page on MySpace does offer additional exposure.
  • FaceBook.com: Again, time negates spending too much time on the site — but I’ve hooked up with allot of great folks because they found my FaceBook page.
  • SelfGrowth.com: Neat concept concentrating on experts that can help you grow in your personal and business life. The jury is still out on whether the folks there are into networking or link bait only — time will tell.
  • Twitter.com: Do you Twitter? If not, check it out. I’ve already gained a following of folks who have signed up to get my feeds.
  • MyBlogLog.com: I’m currently testing this on my Web Site Consulting Site. It’s interesting to see who stops by!

I know I am not using these sites to their full potential — there is only so much time in a day. But I am pleased with the exposure they have offered. If you are on any of these services, let’s network!

All of the above sites effectiveness will of course boil down to your e-mail communication skills both on the service, your e-mail invites and acceptances. When you use the sites, tools and services that are changing and evolving technology, it can be pretty darned exhilarating! Why not try them out?
